Schrodinger's America

Simultaneously the greatest country in the world and better than everywhere else but also unable to pass life improving reforms.

Dunno, like Australia which already has that and has a 5% unemployment rate?

I guess 5% then.
And your cost of living and ridiculous taxes completely wipe it out.

Our taxes are actually quite low.

10% GST, no property tax on house you live in. Oh not to mention you pay 0 tax selling your own house and get a 50% tax discount on selling assets held over 1 year. Oh not to mention you can deduct mortgage interest and expenses on real estate assets on your personal income.

Oh and no inheritance tax so yeah guess our "ridiculous taxes" hurts people.

Your wages would already have to be that high to cover your taxes and import tariffs and sky high housing costs. You've done nothing more than create an inflationary positive feedback loop.

I will be spending most of the week watching over some high school students. They will probably think I am dorky sitting there with my shirt and tie. It would probably blow their mind if they knew some of the heavy stuff I am into.

Pretty sure if one could create a utopia via legislation we would've figured it out at least once in the past few thousand years. One person's bright idea is invariably another's nightmare.
Who says we have to live in a utopia for educated, reasonable people to generally agree that, for example, industrial runoff in drinking water is undesirable? Why is this insubstantial "if utopia, then" point even a talking point for any counterargument? In a perfect world, we could cleanly power civilization with bottled traces of wild unicorn farts.
Why must you stoop to reductio ad absurdum in order to make your point? Of course no one wants untreated industrial runoff in their drinking water. This does not make all regulation necessary or valid. How is the unemployment rate in Seattle going to look after the $15 minimum wage goes into effect?
I'm not "stooping" to anything, Jay. I made a utopian point to illustrate the absurdity of making utopian arguments. It's not my fault if you can't get behind the ideal of a fart-driven unicorn economy.

I don't think you know how much taxes people pay here... It's actually quite reasonable.

No idea on what you're on about re import tariffs, it's quite low as well.

Housing cost is generally limited to Sydney and Melbourne. Still cheaper than San Fran or NYC so yeh.

Basically our housing issue is actually caused by beneficial tax system given to real estate... so the opposite of these "high taxes" you're harping on about.

Duty rates in Australia vary from 0% to 10%, with an average duty rate of 4.6%.  Some goods are not subject to duty (e.g. laptops and other electronic products)

This is what happens when you don't spend 30% of your GDP funding workfare for goobers defending freedom.

Also the weather is better, population density is lower, there are no black people because we killed them all, and no Australian lives more than 20 minutes from a beach - its enshrined in the constitution.
Plus our property costs are low, as are property taxes which are close to nil.

Apart from that you're spot on.

I took a lovely picture of a sunset against the hills of Irvine.  It was a good pic.  I'm pissed because the bf2s community put time and effort into sending a camera around the US and this little shit stain decided he wasn't gonna participate after the camera got to him.

That being said, most of my friends have seen me naked.  It's not something i'm ashamed about. I have a big weiner, but regardless, it's not something I had any impact on growing myself so there's no reason to be self-conscious about it.

i prefer to take them off girls.  I'm not a fan of something becoming a trend just because people say its becoming a trend.  Shame on media outlets being suckers for doing some stupid company's marketing for them.
